Lost In Lust - Episode 23

She soon slept in my arms. Ola, be careful, I told myself. This woman was playing mind games with you, don‟t fall for her. The following morning, we were indoors throughout. I had a feeling that indeed, B.M was trying to keep me to herself. It was a dangerous dimension and I must be wary. The relationship was initiated on lust, why bring love into it? Besides, if she kept on this way, she would upset all my plans for Naomi.

I believed B.M was trying to win my heart. There was no intercourse between us but she tried in all other ways to please me. She ordered for sumptuous meals and would pop up wine thereafter. She appeared nice and was desirous of holding my hands. Above all, she held me lovingly and possessively. She did that for five days. I was doing nothing but eating, drinking and chatting with her. It was a psychological build-up.

We finally left the resort center Friday afternoon. When she gave me a bundle of five hundred naira notes, I politely declined to accept it.
„You can take it,‟ she urged. „You didn't ask for it; I gave it to you. Come on.‟
I finally took it. She drove in the front while I drove behind her, bumper-to-bumper. From Ota to Abule Egba, Iyana Ipaja, Old Agege Motor road to Oshodi, and then to Anthony.

At Anthony, we parted ways. I joined the Ikorodu road and drove to my residence. I certainly looked fresh and refreshed, courtesy of Big Mummy.
On Saturday, I left my Isawo residence to meet Naomi at Surulere. Ella clung on to me as if she had not seen me in ages.

Mother and daughter were indeed glad to see me. I had bought a bunch of plantain and some tubers of yams on the way. Those were the things I brought for them.
„It doesn‟t look like you went there to work,‟ Naomi pointed out. „Rather, it looks like you went on a feast. See how you look fresh and robust.‟

I smiled it off. How close to the truth she was.
Later that Saturday, we all went to the popular cinema at the Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island. On our way back to Surulere, I bought of a lot roasted meats called „suya‟ and a bottle of nonalcoholic wine to go with it. We certainly looked like one big, happy family.

I resumed work on Monday morning at the Lekki office. Tinu, madam‟s secretary asked how the trip was and hoped it was not tedious.
I smiled at her. „No, it was not tedious,‟ I answered. But there was something about Tinu‟s tone I could not discern.

Madam and I went on with our business as if nothing ever happened. By mid-day, I received a text message that instantly made me become alarmed.
Stop messing with another man‟s wife or you will pay dearly for it.

I read it again and wondered who could have sent it. Had Naomi known about it and she was just acting as if she didn't know? I had to think of her first because I remembered vividly that she warned me at the outset of the relationship that there would be dire consequence if I should cheat on her. I shook my mind. I didn't think Naomi would know and bottle it up even for one hour.

Then I thought of Big Mummy‟s husband. B.M had expressed the fact that the relationship between them was at its hostile peak. She had said she was tired of it and she wanted out. Could it be the man had found out that I was the one giving succor to his wife and had decided to deal with me? But then, how did he know my number?

I looked at the text message again and was really alarmed. I had never received such a threat in my life and my mind said I should take it seriously. I decided to call the number used in sending the text, but the attempted call could not get through. I then called B.M.

„Good day, madam. Hope all is well.‟
„Good to hear your voice, Ola. How‟re you?‟
„I‟m not fine. In fact, I‟m in fear.‟
„What happened?‟ she asked, panic in her voice.

„I just received a text message warning me to desist from following you or I will pay dearly.‟
„You don‟t mean it.‟
„I do, and certainly, the text is explicit.‟
„Oh, God.‟ There was a pause. „Alright. Don‟t panic. When we meet later at the guest house this evening, we‟ll talk about it.‟
„Okay.‟
„Don‟t worry, you hear?‟
„Alright.‟

I tried not to worry, but part of my mind kept giving me the warning signal. Later, after closing, I went to our meeting place. This time around, she came before six o‟clock.
I showed her the text message. „Who could have sent this message?‟ she asked.
I shrugged. „Honestly, I don‟t know.‟

She thought for a while. „Alright, copy the number on a paper. I‟ll take it to the police commissioner tomorrow morning for prompt investigation.‟
I nodded.
„There‟s no need to worry, baby boy.‟

I tried to smile. We chatted a bit more, during when she revealed that she would be travelling to Abuja the following day and might not be back until Friday.
„We‟ll likely see on Friday here when I return,‟ she said.

We soon parted and I returned to my Isawo residence. Tuesday morning was hectic at the depot as many oil tankers were around to load fuel. I worked hard till we closed at five p.m. I drove the car with the stream of traffic. It was few minutes after seven when I got home. It was dusk and darkness was gradually taking over the terrain. I stopped the car at the gate and got down to unlock and open the gate.

It was then I noticed that a car had followed me and two men had got down. One of them pointed the gun at me. The street was almost deserted, and in any case, there was nothing I could do against the two men. Not with one of them holding a gun. They gestured that I should enter my compound, which was equally deserted.

Robbers? Thieves? Kidnappers? Who were they?
The one with the gun dug it at my right ribs, while the second man brought a handkerchief out. It was stuffed to my nose for several seconds. I felt sleepy and dizzy at the same time. My body went down. I tried to struggle but my strength deserted me. I slumped on the ground and became oblivious of things going on.

The cool breeze passed over my face. It was cool and caressing. But my nose seemed not to find it alluring. A sneeze forced itself out of me. Yet, another sneeze. Gradually, my eyes opened. At

first, everything was a blur. I closed the eyes and opened them again. Things became clearer. I realized I was lying on the ground.
Lying on the ground? I sat up slowly. How could I be lying on the ground? Then I realized I was lying where I used to park my car. I looked around. The car was parked some meters away. How did I get here?

I tried to shake off my confusion. Wait a minute, I was followed and attacked by two guys. They had induced me to sleep. Where were they? What did they do to me? I tried to stand up, and just then I noticed the terrible pain coming from my crotch. I looked down there. My trousers had been opened and they left the fly unzipped. What did they do?

I tried to stand up again and succeeded. But I felt so weak. There was total darkness now. What time was it? How long had I been lying there? Endless questions but no answer
I searched my pockets. I was surprised my two phones were still there.

There were also some currency notes. What kind of robbers would leave valuable things in the pockets of their victims? I brought the phones out. They were still in perfect working condition. I checked to see the time. It was 11.55 p.m. I tried to remember some things. I had closed from work and had driven myself home.

As I was opening the gate to drive in, two men had held me at gun point. Before I got down from the car, the time was about few minutes after seven. That meant I had been lying on the ground for over … over four hours!

The second phone had torchlight. I switched the light on and searched the ground where I had lain. There was nothing else there. I moved towards the car. Ouch! Each movement brought pain to my scrotum. What had these guys done to my crotch?

Slowly, I moved to the car. Can you imagine? These guys brought the car inside the compound and parked it. I opened the unlocked car and sat at the passenger seat. Everything looked intact. The car key was still at the ignition.

Then, I saw a white envelope on the dashboard. No, I did not leave that one there. I opened the envelope. A folded paper was there. I unfolded and, with the torchlight, I read the terse message:
This is your last warning. Stop frolicking with a married woman.
