„Yes. Madam, the boss. She wants to see you right away.‟

I had no option that to go back to the building and go to the first floor. Tinu ushered me to madam‟s office immediately.

„Good morning, madam,‟ I greeted.

„Good morning, Ola. Please, sit down.‟

I sat down alone with her in the cool office.

She stared at me. „I have seen your letter of resignation,‟ she started. „Let me say you don‟t have any reason to take a panic measure. I‟m on top of the situation. The worst is over, Ola.‟

I looked at everywhere but her face.

She smiled. „You‟re just like Dave, my son. The way you react. I can‟t blame you. Look, I‟ve confronted Peter – that‟s my husband - about the attack on you, and he confirmed he was the one behind it. He said he only wanted to use that to scare you off.

I've told him I‟m going ahead with the divorce and nothing bad must happen to you again. He has realized now that I've made up my mind on the divorce case, and there‟s no going back. He has promised to leave you alone. He doesn't have a choice again.‟

I shook my head. „A man called me not long ago, claiming to be your husband. He denied having anything to do with the attack. Is that not contradictory to what you‟re saying?‟

„You mean the caller actually introduced himself as my husband?‟

„Yes. He said he got my number from Tinu. He denied having anything to do with the attack and said I was free to have relationship with you.‟

B.M sighed and nodded. „Wait, let me confirm from Tinu.‟ She used the intercom to call the secretary.

Tinu came into the office.

„Did you at any time give Ola‟s number to my husband?‟

„Yes, ma. This morning, he said he wanted to pass urgent message to Ola.‟

Madam sighed. „I see. Alright, you can go back to your office.‟

Tinu left us alone.

„He was indeed the one that called you. He must have denied it to safe his face. In any case, there's nothing to fear again, Ola. Let the status quo continue.‟

I thought over what she was saying. It meant I should continue my job. It also meant our affairs would resume. Naomi‟s face popped in my mind. I must not disappoint her again. I would not. But I could not tell B.M an outright No. I had to be discreet. Oh God, help me.

„Okay, madam,‟ I said. „I‟ll continue with my work. I must really appreciate your interests and concerns. But I need to have today off. I still need to go back to the hospital.‟

Her eyes opened in surprise. „I thought you said you were okay?‟

I nodded and tried to smile. „Thank you, so much. I'll like to go to the hospital now.‟

I tried a smile again as I collected the letter from her. I stood up.

„Have no fear again, Ola. Nobody will ever attack you again.‟

Again, I smiled. „Thank you, ma.‟

„Is the residential address on your c.v your current address?‟ she asked. An alarm went off in my mind. What did she want with my address? I thought fast. As at the time I gave Naomi the c.v, I was still staying with my uncle.

„Yes, madam,‟ I lied.

„Okay. I may as well pay you a visit.‟

I thanked her again and left the office. I actually decided to go to the hospital. I would have to see the interior of Lakers hospital one more time. When I got there, it was Doctor Arinola Robert that was still around.‟

„You were supposed to come back two days ago for another examination,‟ she said. „Why didn't you come?‟

„I‟m sorry,‟ I said. „Well, I‟m here now.‟

„So, how do you feel now?‟

I whistled to myself. May God continue to bless my uncle. I went to my house at off Isawo Road to pack some more clothes. Then I went back to Surulere. I would go to The Ikeja hospital to see the specialist tomorrow, Friday.

As far I was concerned I had kissed Eaglets oil job goodbye forever.

I was at the Surulere residence by two thirty. Naomi had already given me a spare key, so I could always enter the apartment any time. I prepared white rice and ate it with stew. Then I took my

medication. Thereafter, I relaxed on the sofa and watched the movies channel. By four o‟clock, when Ella came back from school, she was surprised to see me at home.

„Uncle, you didn‟t go to work, today?‟ she asked.

„I went but came back on time. I‟m about to change job, but the new job, which was actually my old job, would be next week.‟

She nodded and went to her room to change. Later, I helped her with some of her school assignment.

In the early evening, when Naomi returned from work, I told her all that happened to me since morning. On what Big Mummy said about continuing with the affairs, she said she was happy I had quit the job. My main concern now was the medical issue. I would have to go and see the recommended specialist on that, I said.

„All will be well,‟ Naomi said. „All will be well, my dear.‟

How I so much valued those words of assurance.

I was at Ikeja hospital the following day to see the specialist. Once again, I was subjected to examinations. I also did some scans on the genitals. While I was coming back from the hospital, madam called my line.

„I was told you didn't come to work today. How‟s your health now?‟

„I‟ll get better, ma,‟ I said.

„I can understand that you need some rest. Resuming on Monday will be okay.‟

„Yes, ma. Thank you, madam.‟

„Don‟t forget to let me know if you need more money.‟
